Singularity 0.1.1
November 5, 2026
AI work you can bill like a lawyer’s time, AI colleagues who see your pictures, and a Singularity that now keeps itself up to date.
New
Singularity now updates itself. New versions download in the background and install the next time you restart or close Singularity, never in the middle of your work. When one is ready, Singularity tells you, with Restart now. Every version is checked against Legal Machines’ signature before it installs, and on Windows, Windows asks for your permission first. This is the last update you’ll install by hand.
Bill AI work like a lawyer’s time. Every request an AI colleague makes is billed at the exact price its provider reported, grouped by the colleague who did the work and showing who asked for it. Each line carries its proof: the provider’s own request ID and fingerprints of exactly what was sent and what came back, ready to share with a client. What a request said never appears on the bill.
AI colleagues see your pictures. Attach a logo, a photo of a page or a diagram, and your AI colleague sees the image itself, words or no words. Ask “Is this trademark registrable?” and it answers about the mark you sent. iPhone photos (HEIC) and TIFF scans are converted on your computer first. With client data protection on, an attached picture is marked “Not masked” before you send it, because protection masks words, not pictures.
A statement your client can verify. One click saves a PDF to attach to your invoice, together with a file signed by the computer that issued it. Your client checks that file at legalmachines.org/check, right in their browser, without uploading it anywhere.
Shared Matters just appear. When a colleague shares a Matter with you, it shows up in your Matters with its documents. There’s nothing to accept.
Trash for Matters. Deleted a Matter by mistake? It stays in the Trash for 30 days, ready to restore.
A record of AI work nobody can quietly change. Every AI request is written to your computer’s record the moment it’s made. Each entry is sealed to the one before it and timestamped by Legal Machines from a fingerprint alone, so no request can be added, removed or changed later without it showing. Your statement carries the part of the record its requests belong to.
Costs confirmed by OpenRouter. When your AI colleagues work through OpenRouter, each request’s cost is checked against OpenRouter’s own records, and your bill and statement show what OpenRouter confirmed next to what you billed.
A Billing tab that reads like a pre-bill. See the month in one sentence, time by day or by member, and AI model use as a disbursement at cost. Log time the way you’d write it: 1.5, 1:30 or 90m.
See where joining your firm stands. On a new computer, Singularity shows each step of joining: the check, the connection and what has arrived so far.
Clear what you don’t need. Clear Recent without deleting a conversation, or clear a direct conversation on your computer only. The other person keeps theirs, and Undo brings it back.
Passwords you can see and keep. Every password field has an eye to show what you typed. On Windows, Singularity can keep your seat’s password in Windows Credential Manager and sign you in with it.
Report a problem from inside Singularity. On a design partner’s seat, the bug icon beside your name at the bottom of the sidebar sends Legal Machines a report: what it’s about, what happened, and up to three screenshots. Each seat accepts the Diagnostics Consent once, before its first report.
What’s new, after every update. The first time Singularity opens on a new version, a notice at the top of the window tells you, with a link to that version’s release notes.
Improvements
- Drag files and folders onto a Matter, on macOS and Windows. A clean drop area covers the page while you drag.
- Connecting Office now takes a single dialog that shows what’s connected.
- Setup asks up front for every permission Office needs, checks that each one was given, and skips any your computer already allows.
- Signing in again on a computer you’ve already set up takes you straight back to work.
- Resetting a forgotten administrator password now goes one step at a time: the code from the email, the new password, then your authenticator code last, so it’s still fresh when you send it.
- Long threads open quickly and load earlier messages as you scroll up.
- Files you attach show up instantly, pictures as themselves, with a loading mark until they’re ready.
- Formatting shortcuts now work while you edit a message too: B, I, E and Shift+X, with Command on a Mac and Ctrl on Windows.
- Your firm’s computers stay in sync across different networks, end-to-end encrypted.
Fixes
- Office couldn’t be connected when setup hadn’t asked for the permissions it needs. Setup now asks first and checks.
- A colleague’s new computer could sit on “Your firm is on its way” with no sign of progress. It now shows each step and moves on as soon as the firm’s record arrives.
- Signing in on a second computer of your own asked you to check “your firm’s administrator’s new computer”. It now asks you to check your other computer.
- A computer that had been signed out or set up again kept asking to be checked. It now leaves your firm’s list until it signs in again, and one that never answers can be turned away with Not mine.
- The AI colleague you hire during setup couldn’t receive messages until Singularity restarted. Its conversation now opens as soon as your Matters folder is set.
- An AI colleague could fail with “invalid UTF-8 byte” after a long conversation in Russian or another language with non-Latin letters. Requests are no longer cut in the middle of a letter.
- Dropping files anywhere other than a direct conversation did nothing.
- Messages in a thread were counted as AI requests on the bill.
- An AI colleague with no model available said so twice.
- The Inbox could fail to show after a Matter was deleted from the Trash.
- Messaging a colleague right after they shared a Matter with you failed.
- Signing out left your account in this computer’s settings. It no longer does.
- After five wrong authenticator codes, sign-in told you to wait a few minutes. It now takes you back to your password, still filled in, so you can sign in again for a new code.
- On Windows, password fields showed two eyes.
- The setup illustration didn’t show or move in the installed app on Windows and macOS.
- On a Mac, pictures in a Matter (PNG, JPEG or a phone’s HEIC photo) showed “Cannot be read”. Their words are now read on your Mac, just as on Windows.
- A picture with no words in it, such as a logo, showed “Can’t be read”, and an AI colleague couldn’t see it.
- File names disappeared in a narrow documents list.
- The pictures beside each setup step showed an older design. They now match the app you work in.
- On Windows, the top of the window now has the same margin as its sides.
- A notice could cover a thread’s title, its Matter and the people in it. Notices now appear just below the top of the window.
Known issues
- On a Mac, Apple’s Passwords app doesn’t yet offer or save your seat’s password.
- On a Mac, the first time Singularity opens after you update from 0.1.0, macOS may ask once more for permissions you already gave, such as access to your folders. Singularity’s Mac app is now signed with its own certificate, so future updates keep them.
- On Windows, the permission prompt for an update shows an unknown publisher, because Singularity’s installer isn’t signed with a publisher’s certificate yet.
Thank you
To our design partners and everyone who tested Beta 1: thank you. Many of these changes started as one of your reports. Keep them coming.
